You have had the outside of your windows cleaned by our professional team, but the insides are still full of dirt and streaks. Whilst not as noticeable during the summer months, when the sun is lower, and the light shines right through your windows, no doubt, the sight of dirty windows can seriously affect your mood.
Windows are dirt magnets, and with improper cleaning techniques, you can end up with windows that don't look great or a build-up of dirt that become hard to remove.
However, learning how to clean your windows effectively can change the way you look at your windows. Therefore, today we highlight what steps you need to take to get the freshest, best-looking windows on the street. And what to avoid.
The key to getting your windows clean is in preparation. In addition, preparation is key to ensuring that you protect your blinds and windows from damage.
Start by laying a dry towel across the window sill to collect debris and prevent water from accumulating on the wood. Furthermore, close any blinds and dust them thoroughly before raising them to give you easy access to the glass. Next, sweep away any other debris, paying particular attention to cobwebs and loose dirt. You should also consider a small brush to get into any nooks and crannies that cloth might otherwise miss. Once you remove all the debris and dust, you can consider getting the water out.
Using a commercial glass cleaner is a great place to begin for the inside of your windows. Start by gently wiping down the windowpane with a damp cloth. This technique will help remove the top layer of loose dirt. Next, spray the cleaner on the window, starting at the top. Ensure it goes down the centre, careful not to stray to the edges or the non-glass surfaces. Then, spread the solution across the glass using a dry, lint-free towel or microfiber cloth. Once all the dirt is off, squeegee the glass from the top down (wiping clean after each motion). Then dry off the areas where the glass meets the frame.
Finally, if any streaks remain, go over them in a circular motion with a dry lint-free cloth.
We recommend cleaning the inside of your windows at least twice yearly, if not each quarter. Whilst outdoor windows get more impact from the weather, the interiors shouldn't need the same level of commitment.
Cleaning the window inside is essential for the health of your home and family and should therefore be part of your regular cleaning.
Some window cleaning mistakes and how to avoid them.
When cleaning your windows, over-focusing is a common mistake. Instead, you should focus on one section at a time to ensure that the spot is clean before moving on.
In addition, if you spray and are too large, the water will begin to dry before you've had a chance to clean it. This additional spray can make it much more challenging to get a streak-free finish.
Finally, it would be best if you remembered to spend time on the frames, handles, and glass. Then, open the windows and clean the gaps inside the frame if suitable. But of course, don't do this when it's raining!
